Rust Base Building Mistakes That Get You Raided - Faded Builds

Are You Making These Rust Base Building Mistakes?

You spent hours grinding resources, carefully placing every wall and floor — and then you log in to find your base wide open and your loot gone. Sound familiar? Most Rust players get raided not because their enemies are better, but because their base design has critical weaknesses that experienced raiders know exactly how to exploit.

Here are the most common Rust base building mistakes — and how to fix them before it costs you your wipe.

1. Not Enough Walls to Your Core

The number one mistake new players make is building a core with only one or two walls of protection. Experienced raiders can blow through a single wall layer in minutes. A strong Rust base should have a minimum of 3 walls to core — meaning a raider has to destroy at least 3 walls in a row before reaching your loot room. All of our designs at Faded Builds are built with this standard in mind.

2. No Shooting Floor

If you can't shoot back during an online raid, you've already lost. A shooting floor gives you elevated angles to pick off raiders while they're exposed. Without one, you're forced to fight at ground level — a massive disadvantage. Make sure your base design includes a dedicated shooting floor with covered peaks and multiple angles.

3. Predictable Loot Room Placement

Experienced raiders know exactly where to look for loot in generic base designs. If your tool cupboard and loot rooms are in the most obvious spots, you're making their job easy. Hidden loot compartments and unexpected core layouts — like those in The GHOST with its up to 8 bunkers — force raiders to spend far more explosives than your loot is worth.

4. Weak Offline Protection

Most raids happen when you're offline. If your base isn't designed to withstand an offline raid, you'll wake up to nothing. Floor-stacked designs like The VOID are specifically engineered to maximize offline protection, making it extremely expensive for raiders to reach your core while you're away. The GHOST combines exceptional offline protection with up to 8 bunkers, keeping your loot hidden and safe even during the longest offline stretches. And if you want the ultimate all-rounder, The APEX delivers super fortified, floor-stacked protection that dominates both online and offline raids.

5. Building Too Big, Too Fast

It's tempting to expand your base as quickly as possible, but a large, unfinished base is worse than a small, fortified one. Unfinished sections create easy entry points and spread your defenses too thin. Build in phases — secure your core first, then expand once it's properly defended.

6. Ignoring the Compound

Your compound is your first line of defense. A poorly designed compound lets raiders set up siege towers, place beds nearby, and work on your walls without any pressure. A well-designed funnel compound — like the one in The APEX — forces raiders into a single path covered by turrets, making every raid attempt costly.

7. Skipping Turrets

Auto turrets are one of the best investments you can make in Rust. Players who skip turrets to save resources often regret it the moment an online raid starts. A well-placed turret in a shooting floor or compound can single-handedly stop or slow a raid long enough for you to respond.

8. Using a Generic or Copied Base Design

If your base design is widely known — from a YouTube video or a popular footprint — experienced raiders already know every weakness. A unique, professionally designed base keeps raiders guessing and forces them to spend more resources figuring out your layout.
